Boomer
The Boomer is a person who has attended operating session weekends or events organized by others. These session weekends typically involve travel of over 100 miles from their home to destinations where they have been exposed to new layouts and different regional practices.
The Boomer must have attended three different operating weekends or multi-session events outside of their home area.
To apply for credit toward the Boomer Achievement, applicants must describe session attendance with host name, dates and a brief description of the session and the role filled by the applicant. For applicants who have attended a very large number of qualifying sessions, perhaps over many years, please provide only a brief description of three recent sessions.

I have traveled more than 100 miles for sessions all the time. Do these qualify?
Generally, we are looking for participation in formal operating weekends where you can immerse yourself in operations for 2–3 days. These are the events that are hosted by a committee dedicated to this purpose and often recur annually or biannually.

I have been to operating sessions as part of my regular trips to NMRA National or Regional Conventions. Do these qualify?
Yes, but also no. Don’t use these sessions toward your Boomer submission because they don’t meet the criteria set forth in the question above. But these sessions qualify for credit toward the C&E Award, and if you had a job like Office Crew, Dispatcher, or Yardmaster, they may qualify in those categories too.

Well, do your best to tell your story of traveling to various operating weekends. If you are having trouble remembering and coming up with three pretty solid examples, make it your goal to get out there soon… but we will give your application every possible consideration.
