Overview
The mission of the OPSIG-AP is to increase the ability and knowledge of model railroaders interested in Operations.
In addition, the program is intended to provide an “on ramp” for relatively new operators, expand the operations hobby, and deepen the connection among operators within our community. We have designed courses of study and requirements of “on the job” experience to make the pursuit of individual Achievements interesting, challenging, and enjoyable.
Applicants may freely pursue any achievement award described herein and may pursue as many as they choose to. There are no prerequisites.
Applicants must be OPSIG members; the Key Helper Achievement can be awarded to members or non-members.
An applicant for an individual Achievement Award will submit reasonable evidence and/or explanation describing how they have met the requirements thereunder. Credit will be given for qualifying experience from the applicant’s past. The qualification requirements have been drafted with the intention of capturing each with reasonable specificity. Our intent is to confer Achievement Awards where the applicant’s submission reasonably demonstrate knowledge, capability and/or experience in the specific discipline.
Each award when conferred includes a Certificate of Achievement and button memorializing the individual’s achievement.
An applicant that completes 8 of the Achievements will be deemed to have become an OpSIG Qualified Operator, a designation we have nicknamed “Operations Ninja”.
An applicant seeking the Qualified Operator aka Ninja designation must have successfully completed the C&E Achievement (and its exam described herein) as one of their 8 areas of Achievement. The Operations Ninja will receive a special patch and a Ninja Certificate.
