Yardmaster
The Yardmaster is a person who has demonstrated competency and experience in serving as Yardmaster of a yard. The position of Assistant Yardmaster or “Footboard” Yardmaster may also qualify if the layout regularly assigns attendees to those positions.
The Yardmaster Achievement requires that the applicant have acted as Yardmaster (or Assistant/Footboard Yardmaster) on three different model railroads which can include a layout they own or their home club.
In applying for credit toward the Yardmaster Achievement, applicants must submit evidence of their experience with dates and a description of the Yardmaster role played at an operating session as well as the host’s name. Additionally, the layout host for the session will verify that, in their opinion, the Yardmaster assignment was handled reasonably well by the applicant.

I have operated so many times over the decades, I'm sure I've been a Yardmaster several times. Is that enough?
Well, we do require more specificity than that. If you consider yourself a proven Yardmaster, then the idea of walking into a large layout and being handed responsibility for a busy, important yard isn’t terribly daunting. You would have done the job several times before with confidence and welcome the opportunity to bring your skills to the assignment.
Many people who “maybe once or twice” did the job may not really have the experience to walk into the situation above… nor necessarily get credit toward the Yardmaster Award. So, tell us your story if you feel confident that yards are your bag. If you’re less confident, we’d love to see you back here after you’ve done it a few more times.
